Route

Description of the route

Are you ready for a medium level route of 60 km? We start in Oropesa, at the Paseo Marítimo de la Concha, near the sea, and take the road north, passing through Marina d’Or and campsites to Torre la Sal. Then, we take the Avenida Colada del Pou Nou, where the terrain begins to steepen and leads us to the Puerto de la Bandereta. The climb is tough, with steep sections, but at km 19 we crown the pass and descend towards Cabanes. Afterwards, the terrain becomes flat for about 6.5 km, allowing us to rest our legs. We pass through Montalba and leave the CV15. Then, we continue parallel to the CV10 towards the Desierto de las Palmas. From km 46.3, we enter the Natural Park, where the terrain is all downhill until we reach the sea level. We enjoy the mountain scenery and, after about 5 km, we take the CV148 to return to Oropesa, arriving at the center of town.

Points of interest along the route

Torre la Sal (Km 8.3): also known as Torre de Cabañas. Located very close to the beach next to an Iberian site. It belongs to the municipality of Cabanes. Puerto de la Bandereta – Rosildos (Km 18.9): located between the village and the Sierra de Engarcerán, this pass is short but intense and with steep slopes. As you go up you will be gaining altitude at a very fast speed which offers incredible views. The hardness of the pass is rewarded once you reach the top and you can enjoy the panoramic view. Cabanes (km 21.5): It is located about 10 km from the sea, in the region of Plana Alta and extends to the seaside town of Torre la Sal. On the other side the surrounding terrain is mountainous, as Cabanes is located on top of a hill at 294 m altitude. La Pobla Tornesa (Km 37.3): municipality of less than 1000 inhabitants nestled in a valley surrounded by the Desierto de las Palmas and Borriol. It is home to one of the most beautiful natural sites in the province: Pinar de la Planeta.

Oropesa del Mar, in the Plana Alta, is a tourist destination noted for its beaches and coves, with landscapes that combine orange groves, mountains and sea views. Its history, marked by Roman and medieval remains, includes vestiges of a Muslim castle and watchtowers built to defend against pirates. The municipality offers attractions such as the Mirador del Monte del Bobalar, from where you can see the Illes Columbretes Natural Park. In addition to its historic architecture, Oropesa is famous for its gastronomy, with typical dishes such as rice and fideuá, and has beaches such as La Concha and Morro de Gos. Accommodation varies from the Marina d’Or complex to more affordable options such as the Hotel Jardín or the Hotel Neptuno, close to the beach.

El Mirador: at the top of Mount Bobalar, from where you can see the Natural Park of the Columbretes Islands Torre del Rey, Torre Colomera and Torre Cordá: three ancient watchtowers in perfect condition. Oropesa Castle: destroyed along with the walls in the War of Independence. It has managed to restore a part that is currently visible. Church of the Virgen de la Paciencia: it preserves in its interior tiles from the 18th century.

Hotel Jardín (Avenida Faro, 97): two-star hotel near the beach at a very affordable price.

Apartamentos Azahar (calle María Zambrano, s/n): apartments very close to Torre la Sal at an affordable price.
