Description of the route

In Benicàssim we propose an easy 16 km route along the Mediterranean coast, perfect to enjoy the seascapes. The route starts in the center of town, from where you will follow the Avenida de Barcelona until you take the Via Verde Oropesa-Benicàssim on the right, which will take you along the coast. Since the road is close to sea level, the slopes are gentle and will not require much effort. The highest point of the route is a small pass in the Urbanización Tossal Natural, at 61 m above sea level. After descending, you will follow the road to Oropesa, located only 8 m above sea level, and return along the same route to Benicàssim.

Points of interest along the route

Urbanization Tossal Natural (Km 5,5): privileged enclave on the shores of the Mediterranean. On the beachfront you can find private homes located in an idyllic setting. Oropesa (Km 8): Oropesa does not have important civil or religious architecture but it is still one of the most touristic towns in Castellón due to its beaches and the Marina d’Or holiday complex.

Benicàssim, with its artistic heritage and historical evolution, has become a tourist destination of reference. Founded before the Reconquest, it had an Arab castle, but it was after the Reconquest of Jaime I that its development began. In 1603, Benicàssim was repopulated with the Town Charter and, in 1769, it was considered a town after the construction of the Santo Tomás de Villanueva Church, an example of neoclassical style. Since the 19th century, tourism has been key to its growth, with the construction of the summer villas and the consolidation as a tourist destination. Benicàssim also stands out for its Desierto de las Palmas, a mountainous natural park full of native species, and for its beautiful beaches, such as Playa de Voramar.

In summer, it hosts two major music festivals: the FIB and Rototom. In addition, it offers an excellent gastronomic and accommodation offer such as Hotel Bersoca, Thalasso Hotel El Palasiet or Restaurant Voramar, where you can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine.

Church of Santo Tomás de Villanueva: Initiative of Pérez Bayer in the 18th century. Neoclassical style and decorated with paintings by Camarón. Tower of San Vicente: old watchtower built in the 15th century. Las Villas: built since the end of the 19th century with a great architectural beauty. 51 villas that can be seen with the Route of the Villas. Desierto de las Palmas: natural park in the interior that houses a multitude of native species. From the mountains you can see the coastal plains. Playa Voramar: one of the most famous beaches of Benicassim from which you can see the Villas.

Voramar (Edificio Pilar Coloma, 1): family hotel in a privileged location on the beachfront.

Thalasso Hotel El Palasiet (Pontazgo, 11): luxurious hotel on the beachfront.

Hotel Bersoca (Gran Avinguda Jaume I, 217): 5 minutes from the beach with much more affordable prices and traditional home cooking.
